Our vision is to grow towards becoming an intergenerational, multi-ethnic, anti-racist, geographically and economically diverse Christian community gathered together and sustained by creative worship, biblically-inspired learning, empathetic ministry, nonviolently disrupting injustice in the world.

Christian Education

Learning to Grow in Faith

Christian education at First Presbyterian Church Palo Alto extends beyond classrooms—it’s about transforming hearts and minds through conversation, insight, and compassion.

Sunday School

We have a flexible and adaptable Christian Education program for children.

  • Our Pastor offers a fun, age appropriate children’s sermon each Sunday.
  • Sunday School teachers are trained and vetted and offer Sunday School classes during worship services. These can include classroom time or time planting in one of our gardens.
  • Our Sanctuary has a children’s section with books and quite activities.
  • Children of every age are welcome to stay in worship and are welcome to participate in our weekly Communion during worship.

Adult Education

  • After many worship services, interested people gather to hear a special guest speaker. Speakers are often from local organizations doing good work in the community. We also have occasional sermon feedback times and topic discussion.
  • Early Church is an online only lay-led worship service centered on discussion of a text. The group meets at 8:30 a.m.

Film and Discussion Series

Our long-standing “Faith Issues in Film Group” brings congregants together in a thoughtful exploration of cinema through the lens of faith and ethics.

  • Celebrating its 26th year in the 2024-25 season
  • Meets monthly via Zoom to discuss films ranging from Minari to American Fiction, The Station Agent, and Breath of Life
  • Fosters rich dialogue, reflection, and spiritual growth
  • The Film Group is open to all and asks people to commit to attendance for the season from September – May
